Pierre Jean-Rémy held various positions in China and gained interest in its culture. He found in Chu Teh-Chun’s work a bridge between the French and Chinese cultures. He made a literary career under this pseudonym and was rewarded with many prizes, he was elected to the French Academy in 1988.
