"Return from Geneva": a masterpiece inspired by the exceptional snowfall of 1985

January 2025

In 1985, a remarkable winter blanketed Geneva with an extraordinary layer of snow, creating a rare and enchanting scene. This unforgettable moment deeply inspired Chu Teh-Chun, who captured its poetry in the painting Return from Geneva.

The black-and-white photograph presented here captures a rare and intimate moment of Chu Teh-Chun working on Return from Geneva in his studio, located on the 18th and top floor of the tower in Bagnolet, where he lived with his family.
This space, perched atop the city, offered the artist a unique perspective—a peaceful retreat, bathed in light and inspiration. It was here, surrounded by his brushes, paints, and limitless imagination, that he transformed the memory of the extraordinary snow in Geneva in 1985 into this vibrant masterpiece.
